Funny pollution meme #1

Air Pollution

Air Pollution

Air is vital to life on Earth. It’s simple; no air, no life. That’s why it’s important to protect the air and keep it clean. The main cause of air pollution is burning fossil fuels such as coal to make energy. This emits carbon dioxide (CO2). Air pollution can be caused by a variety of different things. Some of the things are idling, smoking, burning of fossil fuels, and tons of other stuff. Air pollution can also occur indoors too. You know those typical cleaning solutions that you use to clean your bathroom? Those pollute the inside are and are toxic. They actually are bad for you to breathe in. That’s why you should use natural cleaning solutions like vinegar and baking soda. Check out the natural cleaning tab to learn more.

Vehicle idling is not only bad for the air, it's illegal in some states such as Connecticut. Cars emit carbon dioxide (CO2) which is also a cause of climate change. So, you want to take action? Check out the take action tab to learn more. Lets save the earth!!! 🌏

The Ozone Hole

Air pollution is getting worse and worse. If this continues, the air quality will get to the point where it's dangerous to breathe in. Air pollution is causing a large hole in the ozone layer. Which is a layer of gases in the stratosphere. The hole is right over Antarctica. By definition the ozone layer shield refers to a region of the Earth's stratosphere that absorbs most of the Sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It contains high concentrations of ozone (O3). The Sun's UV rays are very harmful, if this ozone hole gets really big... it's not going to be good. In 2010, the ozone hole was about 22 million square kilometers. To put that in context that's slightly smaller than North America which is about 25 million square kilometers. Imagine how big the ozone hole will be in 50 years; I don't want to.

Air Pollution: Taking Action

I hope you learned some things in my air pollution informational article, now I'll tell you how to take action to help reduce air pollution.

Here is a list of the main causes of air pollution.

  • Leaving your car idling
  • Smoking
  • Farming chemicals
  • Fossil fuel burning power plants
  • Dust
  • Radioactive waste

Here is a list of things to do about air pollution.
  • Try to carpool, bike, walk, or take public transportation when you go places to reduce vehicle emissions.
  • Quit smoking!!!!!! It is extremely bad for you and even pollutes the air.
  • If you have a garden or farm, use natural fertilizers. Also don't use chemicals and pesticides because they pollute the air and they are bad for the environment.
  • Believe it or not DUST is a leading cause of air pollution. Isn't that crazy? It's easy to take action too. Dust contributes to indoor air pollution. Time to break out the dust rags and have a dusting party!!!!!!
If you've noticed that I've left out two of the things that I put on the causes list. That is because, well, there's we can really do about stuff like fossil fuel/ coal burning power plants and radioactive waste. XD

Pollution: Taking Action

I know that I've talked a lot about pollution. So I thought that it was time to make a series of articles about how to take action to help reduce or even stop different types of pollution. I'm going to make an article for air pollution, noise pollution, and land pollution. I'm working on those right now and I will be posting them shortly.

Land Pollution

Land Pollution

“Land pollution is the deterioration (destruction) of the earth's land surfaces, often directly or indirectly as a result of man's activities and misuse of land resources.” In other words, land pollution is basically things like littering and habitat destruction. Don’t you wonder why people litter. Seriously, why can’t they just find a trash can somewhere? A lot of the time litter is things like bottles and cans, which can be recycled to make new things. Many people just throw out things that are recyclable. Also, not only can you recycle bottles and cans, you can take them to the supermarket and do the bottle return thing. When you put a empty soda can in the trash, you’re throwing away 5¢!!!! Getting rid of land pollution is easy! Just use that recycling bin and remember not to litter. You’ll do the Earth a favor in keeping it clean!🌏

Natural Cleaning

There are many ways of cleaning without the typical chemical stuff that is actually toxic and bad to inhale. Think: if you can eat it, you can safely clean with it. There are many ways to clean with natural things.

  • DRAIN CLEANER: Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain followed by 1 cup of vinegar and watch it fizz! The acid in the vinegar breaks down gunk clogging the drain. You may have to do this multiple times to get it unclogged. It does work though, I used it to unclog to drain in the bathtub yesterday, it just took 2 or 3 tries.
  • GLASS CLEANER: Mix together 1/4 cup vinegar with 4 cups warm water in a spray bottle. Use it to clean mirrors and windows.   TIP: Wiping it with newspaper works well.
  • MOLD/MILDEW REMOVER: Mix together 1/2 cup borax and 1/2 cup vinegar to form a paste. Scrub using a brush or sponge and then rinse it with water. For tough mold, let it sit for an hour before rinsing with water.
  • FLOOR SANITIZER: In a large bucket, mix together a 1/2 cup borax and 2 gallons hot water. Use a mop to apply it to the floor. Rinsing is not necessary.

Noise Pollution

Noise Pollution
Believe it or not, noise is a type of pollution. Take New York City as an example, so much noise. Did you know that traffic is the main source of noise pollution in cities? Noise pollution affects both human health and behavior. Unwanted noise can damage your physiological health. Noise pollution can cause high stress levels, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful effects. Noise pollution also has negative effects on wildlife. It can disturb the careful balance in predator and prey detection and avoidance. Also, just like with humans, it can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss. Noise pollution is caused by things like cars, buses, loud music, and other things that make lots of noise. What can we do to stop it? Well, refrain from letting your car idle (in CT it's illegal to idle for over 3 minutes), making sure your car has a muffler and it works, not playing music too loudly, being quiet when in nature, and shutting off noisy devices at night. I hope that you'll consider doing some of these this to reduce noise pollution. 🌏
